LISBON — The Lisbon Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances that caused a car to drive off Ridge Road and roll several times on Monday morning.

The single-vehicle crash was reported at 7:15 a.m. in front of 52 Ridge Road, which is Route 9, about a half-mile from the Xtra Mart, according to investigating Lisbon Police Officer Ryan McGee.

A 2012 Nissan Versa sedan driven by 57-year-old Jacqueline McDowell of Lewiston was headed south on Route 9 toward Route 196 when, McGee said, it veered off the road, went into a ditch and hit a culvert.

When the vehicle hit the culvert, it began flipping end over end. It flipped at least eight times according to witnesses — all within the span of about 250 feet — and landed right side up.
McGee arrived first on scene and was soon joined by volunteer Lisbon firefighters who extricated McDowell, the sole occupant, so she could be transported by Lisbon Emergency to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston.

McGee was able to contact McDowell’s husband before she left the scene in the ambulance. A hospital spokeswoman Monday afternoon said McDowell is in fair condition.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation, McGee said Monday.
