Democratic U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree raised more money for her re-election campaign than Republicans Jonathan Courtney and Patrick Calder during the most recent campaign finance period, from April 1 to May 23.
The latest figures come from campaign finance reports filed Thursday with the Federal Election Commission.
Pingree’s campaign raised $84,764 during the period, according to FEC records, compared with $21,621 raised by Courtney, who is Maine’s Senate majority leader. Calder, a merchant mariner, raised $3,100.
Pingree spent $48,275 during the period and had a total of $210,158 on hand as of May 23. Courtney spent $5,736 and had $16,645 on hand when the reporting period ended.
Calder spent $2,317. leaving him with $2,356 available.
Pingree’s list of contributors is diverse, according to the latest filing, ranging from her own daughter, Hannah Pingree, to self-employed artists, a well-known Portland lawyer, teachers, photographers, a New York City real estate developer, the Maine civil liberties union’s executive director, and the Maine College of Art’s president.
A large percentage of the donations were made to Pingree’s campaign online through a political action committee called ActBlue.
On its website, ActBlue describes its mission as supporting Democratic candidates and committees across the country at every level of politics.
Pingree is married to S. Donald Sussman, majority share owner of The Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram.
Courtney’s donation list is not as long, but it includes Gov. Paul LePage’s wife, Ann LePage, and their daughter Lauren LePage.
State Sen. Roger Katz of Augusta and state Rep. Dana Dow of Waldoboro also contributed to Courtney’s campaign.
Calder’s financial reports do not list donors by name, mentioning only that contributions were made to his campaign by Calder for Congress 2012.
