CONCORD, MA — Sheila (Monahan) Taylor, 72, of Freeport and New Smyrna Beach, Florida, formerly of Concord, MA, died Monday, May 28, 2012 at Emerson Hospital in Concord.

She was the beloved wife for 47 years of Richard William Taylor.

Born in Everett, MA on August 24, 1939 she was the daughter of the late Charles and Virginia (Raffo) Monahan. She attended Everett public schools and graduated from Everett High School in 1957. In 1961, she received a B.S. in Elementary Education from Salem State University. Following her graduation from college, she taught first grade at Webster School in Everett.

For many years, prior to her retirement in 2001, Mrs. Taylor worked in telecommunications management for Mintz-Levin in Boston, Staples and TJX Companies, both in Framingham and Siemens Corporation in Lexington. During the 1980’s, she was a marketing analyst at Decision Research Corporation in Lexington. She was employed for the Concord Schools as a Librarian in the Peabody and Sanborn Middle Schools during the 1970’s.

A Concord resident since 1973, she served as President of the PTG at Alcott School, was Chair of the Concord- Carlisle Friends of Football and was instrumental in the fundraising efforts to obtain lights on the high school football field and was a member of the Democratic Town Committee.

A winter resident of New Smyrna Beach, Florida, she was a member of the Beautification Committee at The Inlet at New Smyrna Beach and a member of the Smyrna Yacht Club. She was an officer in the local chapter of the American Association for University Women (AAUW) and was named 2011 "Woman of the Year" for her chapter. She summered in Freeport, Maine for many years and was an avid supporter and fundraiser for the Little Dolphin School in Portland.

In addition to her husband, Richard, she is survived by one son, Michael Charles Taylor and his wife Elizabeth Larsen Taylor of Quincy, 2 grandsons, William Alexander Taylor and Benjamin Michael Taylor, and her brother, Charles Monahan and his wife Nancy of Waltham, one niece and many nephews.

Visiting hours will be held on Saturday, June 2nd from 9 to 11 AM in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center followed by a funeral service in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home at 11 AM. Officiating will be the Rev. Dr. Jeffrey P. Johnson, Pastor, First Congregational Church of Milton.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the Sheila M. Taylor Scholarship Fund at AAUW, a fund that has been established in her name, c/o Lois Neufeld, 4208 Gull Cove, New Smyrna Beach, FL 32169.

Burial will be in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord where Rev. Dr. Johnson will read the committal prayers.
