She was born in Burnham Junction, on 7/2/17. She graduated from Besse High School in 1934 and Gates Business College in 1937. She was employed by the Maine Compensation Commission in Augusta, Maine, for several months before joining her husband, Roy, stationed in Valdosta, GA.
After working as a civilian employee of the Personnel Office, she and Roy moved to Waldoboro in 1946. She then was employed by Depositors Trust Co. in Waldoboro until her retirement in 1980. After retirement, she and her husband enjoyed traveling to Florida, Colorado, Bermuda and Nevada.
Her first passion in life was her predeceased husband, Roy. She was a loving and devoted wife of 68 years and cherished her two children. Her second passion was playing Contract Bridge or teaching anyone who showed any interest in Bridge. She was known to many as the “Queen of Hearts” or “Queenie”. The title Princess was already taken by her golden retriever and constant companion, Isabella.
A woman of great strength and fortitude unknown to most, she made many new friends in 2005 when she and her husband moved to Phippsburg, Maine, to reside with her daughter and husband. Her friends in Waldoboro never forgot her and she realized a deep love from each one of them. Letters, phone calls and visits were so appreciated and realized as a great gift. Her homemade applesauce and apple pie brought smiles to many faces.
She was predeceased by her son, Gary, who died in 1996.
She is survived by a daughter, Rebecca, and son-in-law, Bruce Savage. Other survivors include grandson, Trevor Ralph and wife, Erika, of Cummings, GA, a granddaughter, Melanie Wilson and husband, Kenneth, of Lafayette, CO, and daughterin law, Ann Ralph of Longmont, CO, in addition to six great-grandchildren.
There will be a celebration of life at the Orff ’s Corner Church in Waldoboro on May 14, 2012, at 1:00 pm. Rev. Robert E. Dorr will officiate. Contributions may be made to Chans Hospice, 60 Baribeau Drive, Brunswick, Maine 04011 or to the Phippsburg Fire and Rescue, 1042 Main Road, Phippsburg, ME.
