WEST BATH — A Bath woman was taken to a Portland hospital after crashing into a rock ledge Sunday on Berrys Mill Road.
The crash was reported in the area of 602 Berrys Mill Road at 1:52 p.m.
Lt. Calvin Temple of the Sagadahoc County Sheriff’s Department said 18-year-old Amber Tuplin of 160 Middle St., Bath, was driving a 1994 Honda Accord south on Berrys Mill Road. She was apparently eating while driving and drifted off the side of the road and struck a rock ledge, causing the car to roll onto its roof.
Police believe Tuplin was not wearing a safety belt. As a result of the crash, Tuplin sustained minor lacerations to her face and head trauma.
A Bath Rescue crew rushed Tuplin to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she is listed in satisfactory condition this morning, according to a hospital representative. Her injuries were considered critical but not life-threatening.
Police reports indicate that Tuplin had two passengers in her vehicle — a 16-year-old passenger in the front passenger seat and a 17-year-old passenger sitting on the rear driver’s side. The front seat passenger, who was wearing a safety belt, suffered minor bumps and bruises and was not transported.
It was unknown if the back seat passenger was wearing a seat belt. She was transported to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick.
As of this morning, no charges had been filed. Temple said that the crash remains under investigation and that the crash will be reconstructed by the Bath Police Department.
