TOPSHAM — A box truck headed east on Route 196 this afternoon left the roadway and struck a utility pole, snapping it in half, according to Topsham Police. Lt. Christopher Lewis.

Lewis said there were no passengers in the truck and no one was injured in the crash, which was reported at 2:19 p.m. No one will be charged, but power will be out for a couple of hours, Lewis said shortly before 3:30 p.m. today.

Gail Rice, a spokeswoman for Central Maine Power, said the crash did not snap a CMP pole but that, pending repair of the broken pole, about 375 customers in Topsham are without power.

Police limited traffic to one lane near the crash scene during repairs.

Information about the driver and owner of the vehicle was not available at the time of this posting.
