BOWDOINHAM — The Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department arrested a third man Tuesday in connection with a home invasion on Carding Machine Road in January.

Arrested on a warrant for burglary and robbery was 36-year-old William Smith of 108 Wallentine Road, Bowdoinham. Smith was taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail, where bail was set at $2,500 — or $100,000 surety.

Chief Deputy Brett Strout said following the Jan. 21 incident that Jorge Santiago, 30, and Miguel Rodriguez, 29 — both of Lawrence, Mass. — forced their way into a home on Carding Machine Road that afternoon and demanded cash, marijuana and medications. He said one of the men held a razor to the victim’s throat before fleeing from the home with money and drugs. The victim was not injured and went to a neighbor’s house to call for help.

Law enforcement officers from the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department, Richmond Police Department and the Maine Warden Service responded and cordoned off the area. Officers located Santiago and Rodriguez in the woods after tracking fresh footprints. The two men were taken into custody and transported to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset, where they remain awaiting trial, according to Strout. Bail for each is $10,000.

The case remained under investigation by Sgt. Dale Hamilton, who developed information and obtained the warrant of arrest for burglary and robbery for Smith, who Strout said was involved in the invasion although he didn’t enter the home with Santiago and Rodriguez. Hamilton arrested Smith Tuesday on Post Road in Bowdoinham.

Strout said he expects no further arrests related to the case.
