He was born in Bath, ME, April 3, 1948 the beloved son of John W. Chaffee, Jr. and Barbara Lothrop Chaffee of Arrowsic, ME.
John moved to Connecticut in 1966 where he began his career at Electric Boat retiring April 30, 2007 after 41 years of service. During his career at Electric Boat he worked his was from being a 1st step mechanic to being the Superintendent of the Electrical/Electronics Dept. The last two year before retirement was spent as the Superintendent of the Inside/Outside Mechanics. John was a very dedicated, loyal and highly respected member of Electric Boat. He will be greatly missed by his electric Boat family.
Things John enjoyed in his life the most were working outside in his yard, boating and helping out his friends and neighbors. He was always the person that everyone was able to turn to when they needed help. Being the ultimate handyman there did not seem to be anything he could not fix.
In addition to his parents, and his loving wife and best friend, Donna Ozea Chaffee he is survived by his daughter; Tammy Chaffee of New Preston, CT, his daughter; Heidi Chaffee of Niantic, stepdaughters; Barbara Barnes and Melissa Barnes both of North Stonington, a sister; Gale Stoy and her husband John of Bath, ME and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, April 21st at the Pleasant Valley Community of Prayer and Praise, 20 Grove Ave., Groton, CT. Burial is private and there are no calling hours.
