LEWISTON (AP) — A Maine anti-tax group says it plans on launching another taxpayer bill of rights to give relief to state citizens they say are burdened with one of the heaviest tax obligations in the nation.

Former state Rep. Scott Lansley announced the tax-cutting effort Sunday at a Tax Day Rally in Lewiston.

Maine Taxpayers United, a group formed in 2007 and to support the initiative, hosted the rally and will lead the signature-gathering effort for the new effort.

According to the group, Maine ranks sixth in the nation for the amount of taxes paid by its citizens, but 48th in personal income.

The event was attended by Gov. Paul Le- Page who continued to take aim at lawmakers and lobbyists who criticize his spending cuts, but refuse to offer their own solutions.
