RICHMOND — Rescue crews responded to a two-vehicle crash today at the intersection of routes 201 and 197.
Richmond Patrol Officer Doug Bellevue was called to the crash at 1:19 p.m. Also responding were crews from the Richmond, Bowdoin and Bowdoinham fire departments and at least two ambulances from North East Mobile Health Services.
According to Bellevue, 23-year-old Victoria Romaniello of 12 Jocelyn Place, Pompton Plains, N.J., was driving a 2012 Chevy Equinox east on Route 197. She failed to yield the right-of-way to a 2008 Chevy Equinox driven south on Route 201 by 83-year-old Walter Longley of 871 Plains Road, Litchfield.
Romaniello T-boned Longley’s vehicle, which was pushed onto its driver’s side. The impact of the collision forced Longley’s car to slide into a ditch before it ended up on the tires again. The doors of his vehicle wouldn’t open, so firefighters used the jaws of life to open the door.
Longley was treated and released from Mid Coast Hospital today, according to a hospital spokesman. His dog, the only passenger in Longley’s car, was not injured.
Romaniello, the sole occupant in the vehicle she drove, was not injured.
Bellevue said both vehicles were totaled.
Bellevue said today that he does not expect to issue charges as a result of the crash.
