GEORGETOWN — Georgetown resident Philip Shelton will lead a program titled “Stump to Sea: Building the Schooner Janet May” at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Georgetown Historical Society, 20 Bay Point Road.
A potluck supper at 6 p.m. pre- cedes the presentation, which is the first in a series of potluck suppers and programs hosted by the Georgetown Historical Society.
“Shelton will recount an epic journey of building the 65-foot hackmatack schooner Janet May, taking it from an idea and a handshake to launching her into the icy waters of the Narraguagus River with bulldozers,” a historical society release states. “With words and photos, he will describe his struggle to build the schooner on budget and on time using native trees, an aging horse and one eager apprentice.”
The Janet May now sails out of New Haven, Conn., as the Quinnipiack.
This program is free and open to the public. Those who plan to attend the potluck should bring an entree, salad or dessert for six and their own place setting.
