NEWCASTLE — Eight members of the Heartwood Youth Performance Ensemble (HYPE) will perform pieces based on scenes from “The Little Prince,” by Antoine de Saint- Exupery, at 6:30 p.m. today in the Poe Theater at Lincoln Academy.

“Students participating in the second season of Heartwood’s afterschool performance program, HYPE (Heartwood Youth Performance Ensemble), have been engaged in a 10- week process- based program focusing on graphics, a set of skills combining movement, acting, ensemble and voice to tell a story,” a Heartwood release states. “These skills help theater students begin to create a process for their work, to strengthen their participation in the performing arts, speaking, presentation, or any situation which requires them to be in front of an audience.”

HYPE is open to students in fifth through ninth grades. The program provides ongoing training for students who are intent upon theater and performance opportunities in high school years.

Admission is free. For more information, visit www.heartwoodtheater.org.
