BATH — A fundraiser for the Paul O’Neil Foundation, which helps families in Maine pay for expenses related to illness that are not covered by medical insurance, will run from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday at Smith- Tobey American Legion Post 21.
The event will include a spaghetti dinner, comedy by John Ater, and live and silent auctions. Among the items available for bid are signed baseballs from the Boston Red Sox, a signed hockey puck from the Bruins, team jerseys autographed by Boston Celtics player Paul Pierce and former Bruins star Cam Neely, restaurant gift certificates and tickets to Santa’s Village and Storyland.
Admission costs $7 per person or $ 12 per family. All money raised Saturday will go to the foundation, which provides families of ailing children with funds for gas to and from the hospital, food and lodging for parents and caregivers of hospitalized children and other items.
The O’Neil family, who lived in Bath at the time, launched the foundation in 2004 to honor their son and brother, Paul, who died in 2002 after living with cancer for more than nine years. The mission of The Paul O’Neil Foundation is to offset out of pocket expenses incurred by families and caregivers of the more than 1,600 Maine children with long-term and life threatening illness.
Donations can be mailed to the Paul O’Neil Foundation, care of Julia O’Neil, 54 Deerfield Road, North Berwick, ME 03906.
