He was born in Watertown, NY, Sept. 21, 1929 the son of Dan P. and Ruth Hall Buckingham, Sr. He attended Watertown schools and New Hampshire College.
He married Alice M. (Penny) Frizell in Alabama in 1956. Mrs. Buckingham died March 22, 1996.
Mr. Buckingham served in the U.S. Navy for 24 years, as an air traffic controller, retiring in 1970 as Master Chief while stationed at Brunswick Naval Air Station. He was a veteran of both the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam War. He later was employed at WT Grant in Portland for 3 years and was a manager for the State of Maine Liquor Store, retiring in 1976.
He was a member of United Lodge No 8, F& A.M., Brunswick, & Kora Temple Shrine.
Dan enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, travelling and had a fond love of animals.
He is survived by his companion, Pauline (Polly) B. Toothaker of Cundy’s Harbor and her extended family.
Friends may visit from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Brackett Funeral Home, 29 Federal Street, Brunswick. A graveside funeral service with military honors will be held at 12 noon, Thursday at the Chapel at Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Road, Augusta.
