PORTLAND — Vivid Motion will showcase Portland area dancers for its ninth spring dance show, “Eclipse (and Other Dances),” Thursday through April 14 at the St. Lawrence Arts Center.

“Eclipse” is an original ballet by MJ Emerson. It weaves together “stories of a soldier, a couple and ‘Alice in Wonderland’ to music from Pink Floyd’s ‘ Dark Side of the Moon,’” a Vivid Motion release states.

The other act of the show will be original dances, “just for fun,” according to the release. “These dances are to music by such diverse bands as Lady Lamb the Beekeeper, Two Steps from Hell, Ben Folds Five, Fat Boy Slim and Cage the Elephant.

“Choreographers include Brigitte Paulus, Jamie Driggers, Daphne Gerard, Ruth Klemanski, Trevor Bean, Aaron Farides-Mitchell and Scott Potter.

The cast of 27 dancers comes from as far south as Manchester, N.H., and as far north as Bath.

“They have varied levels of training from professional to none at all,” the release states. “They have different body types much more representative of average people. They vary in age from high school students to parents whose children have almost graduated college.”

Performances are at 7: 30 p.m. Thursday and April 13. A 2 p.m. matinee takes place on April 14. Tickets cost $12 for adults or $6 for kids younger than 13.
