The show’s theme centers on Parisian and Broadway “misfits.”
“From Reynaldo Hahn’s ethereal and charming echoes of Belle époque sensitivities to the ground breaking avant-garde 20th century works of Parisians Eric Satie and Francis Poulenc, married with the brilliant Broadway songs of Kurt Weill, we invite you to become reacquainted with the works of four colorful misfits,” a concert release states. “Misunderstood during their era, their music however has stood the test of time.”
Pianist Arthur Hosford will accompany Morris. In addition to works by Kurt Weill, they will perform a selection of Eric Satie’s witty chansons including “3 Mélodies de 1916” and “La diva de l’empire.”
Also featured are song selections from Poulenc’s “ Banalités” and “Parisiana.”
An accomplished mezzosoprano, Morris “uses her dramatic voice and musical understanding to consistently bring passion, depth and clarity to her performances regardless of genre,” the release states.
She graduated in 2003 with a master’s degree in vocal performance from the University of Colorado’s Lamont Conservatory of Music in Denver. A finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Audition in Denver that year, she has performed as Cherubino in “ The Marriage of Figaro” and Dorabella in “Cosi fan Tutte.”
Morris also teaches and conducts. During a recent residence in Evian, France, she performed regular recitals within the region, and was a member of the jazz group, The Jean-Marie Reboul Trio, which performed throughout France.
