PORTLAND

Good Theater recently announced the lineup for its upcoming 11th season, which opens this fall and continues into spring 2013.

The season will kick off on Oct. 10 with the Maine premiere of A.R. Gurney’s “The Grand Manner.” The play is a tribute to the Golden Age of Broadway about Katherine Cornell, the first lady of the American stage, and her husband, director, Guthrie McClintic.

Featuring a cast of four the comedy is set backstage at the Martin Beck Theatre after a performance when Cornell receives a visit from a fan from Buffalo where Cornell grew up.

“Striking 12” is a new holiday musical by Brendan Milburn, Rachel Sheinkin and Valerie Vigoda. With a cast of 14 actors, musicians and singers, “ Striking 12” will play from Nov. 14 to Dec. 9.

Opening Jan. 30, 2013, will be the East Coast premiere of “Death by Design,” by Rob Urbinati. Critics describe the play as “a comedy with murder” or “Noel Coward meets Agatha Christie.”

The final show will be a world premiere of “Underwaterguy,” written and performed by Stephen Underwood. It opens March 6.

In addition, Good Theater will offer two short engagements of another A.R. Gurney play, “Ancestral Voice.” Performances are set for Nov. 1 to Nov. 4, 2012, and from April 3 to April 14, 2013.
