A LIBRARY TABLE made by Felix Gendrot of Boston, Mass., circa 1865-75, will be among the items featured in “Victorian Furniture: Design Run Amok or Inspired Creativity?” a lecture by Nancy Carlisle, senior curator at Historic New England, at 4 p.m. Sunday in the Winter Street Center, 880 Washington St., Bath. Her free talk, sponsored by Sagadahoc Preservation Inc., will explore the highs and lows of Victorian furniture design, illustrated by items in the Historic New England collection. “For decades, Victorian furniture has been reviled by designers and tastemakers, but Carlisle suggests that this criticism has more to do with late 19th-century attitudes than with the quality of the furniture itself,” an SPI release states. Light refreshments will be provided. For more information, call 443-2174 or email info@sagadahocpreservation.org.
