FREEPORT — The Port Teen Center is ramping up for a fundraiser to auction off 100 custompainted wood canoe paddles donated by L.L. Bean.

In the “Sitting Pretty” fundraiser’s fourth year, the art project that has taken to other donated canvasses in the past will hold its auction from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Freeport Community Center.

According to a press release, there will be food and refreshments at the “family friendly” event that started in 2008 following the death of Freeport High School student Max Thomas, who was a leader at the teen center.

“Since then, each year we have painted as a community and created amazing art in support of a good cause,” the release states.

Eighteen of the painted paddles are now on display at Clayton’s in Yarmouth and 30 are on display in the L.L. Bean store prior to Sunday’s auction.

Tickets for the event cost $10 per person or $25 per family. For more information and previews of the paddles that will be available for auction, visit www.theportteencenter.org.
