BRUNSWICK — A talk on Tuesday will explore the emotional journey that a man goes through following a diagnosis of prostate cancer.
“Prostate cancer is not just a medical journey,” a release from the Maine Coalition to Fight Prostate Cancer states. “Often, we need to confront many emotional issues as well.”
Terry Kungel, president of the coalition, will discuss those issues through experiences with his own diagnosis, service on state and national boards dealing with prostate cancer, and discussions with prostate cancer support groups throughout the state.
The release states, “If you are experiencing poor communication with your doctor, if you are fearing a recurrence or are witnessing a friend dying of cancer, perhaps we can discuss a toolbox of new coping ideas that includes humor, relaxation techniques, exercise, honesty, and a positive attitude in the moment. We can talk about preventing cancer from having power and choosing hope over helplessness and a proactive life over being a victim.”
The talk and question-andanswer session will start at 6:30 p.m. on March 20 in Mid Coast Hospital Conference Rooms 1 and 2.
