BRUNSWICK — LCDR Louiseannette Platt Wright U.S.N., Ret., 89, of Baribeau Drive passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the Mid Coast Medical Center.

Louise was born in Providence, RI in 1922 to Ronalds J. R. and Gertrude Richards Platt. She had two brothers, John D. R. Platt ( her twin) and Ronalds J. R. Platt, Jr., both deceased.

Louise graduated from Hope High School, Providence, RI in 1939 and the University of Rhode Island in 1943, where she was captain of the women’s rifle team and played field hockey, basketball and tennis. Louise was inducted into the URI Athletic Hall of Fame.

After graduation, Louise enlisted in the U. S. Naval Reserve (February 1943) and was Commissioned Ensign January 1944. She was released from active duty March 1947 as a Lieutenant to attend Law School at Boston University. Louise rejoined the Navy and was commissioned LT (jg) in June 1949. In 1966, Louise retired as a Lt. Commander for physical disability.

Louise was politically active during the 70s in Groton, CT as a member of the Republican Town Committee and was elected to two terms on the Town Council. From 1980 to 1986 she worked in the Legislative Commissioner’s Office, State of Connecticut while legislature was in session. Afterwards, she worked at home annotating the state statutes with the decisions of the Supreme and Appellate Courts contained in the Connecticut Law Journal for preparation for publication with the revised statutes every two years.

Louise is listed in "Who’s Who of American Women" Second Edition 1961- 1962; Louiseannette Platt Wright, ( Naval Officer b. Prov. RI)(p.1087).

In the late 1980s, Louise moved to Thornton Oaks in Brunswick to join several of her friends at the retirement community.

Louise is survived by a sister in- law, Carolyn Barrett Platt, and six nieces and nephews ( Lynn, Ronalds, Mary Anne, Jennie, John, and William).

A private burial will be held at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, ME in the Spring.
