The potential field of candidates for the 1st District House seat continued to grow Friday morning.

Longtime Westbrook City Councilor Brendan Rielly, a Democrat, joined the list of those considering a run if U.S. Rep. Chellie Pingree decides to run for Senate. Pingree indicated Friday morning that she was strongly considering that move.

Rielly, 41, an attorney at Jensen Baird Gardner & Henry in Portland, has been a member of the council for 11 years and its president for seven years. Rielly, who is married with three children, said he has not yet taken out papers because he’s still weighing the impact the job would have on his family.

Others who have either taken out petitions or have said they’re considering a run include these Democrats: state Sen. Cynthia Dill, state Rep. Jon Hinck, state Sen. Phil Bartlett, state Sen. Barry Hobbins, Wellington Lyons, David Costa and David Lemoine.

Chellie Pingree said Friday morning that her daugher, former House Speaker Hannah Pingree, was also considering the race.

Republicans who have indicated interest or taken out petitions include state Sen. Jon Courtney, Markham Gartley, John Vedral and Patrick Calder.
