BRUNSWICK — Harold J. Brown Jr., age 90, passed away Saturday afternoon at the Horizons Living and Rehabilitation Center in Brunswick, minutes after a final visit with his wife of 67 years Letha, his son Bud, and Bud’s wife Sally. He was a lifelong resident of Georgetown, only leaving briefly during World War II when he met and married Lea in St. Joseph Missouri while serving in the U.S. Army Air Force at Fort Leonard Wood.

Born on November 4, 1921 at Middle Dyke Farm in Georgetown, Harold was the only son of Harold J. and Clara (Peterson) Brown. He attended Georgetown and Bath Schools and worked for many years as a Shipfitter at the Bath Iron Works until his retirement. He was a proud 50 year member of Solar Star Lodge #14 in Bath, Maine and greatly enjoyed his evenings at the Masonic Temple.

In his younger days he enjoyed tinkering with cars and machinery and had his own ways of doing things. Harold liked to make trailers and gates for “Summer People” and the evidence of that is scattered all around his beloved Kennebec Point. Later in life after retirement, he could be found all around the Island, making his daily tours. Every morning was a pilgrimage to “The Pit” to see what his son- in- law and grandson were doing that day. Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays meant trips to the Dump to observe the goings on there.

Harold is survived by his wife Letha, son

Bud and his wife Sally, daughter Cathy and her husband Charlie Collins, and Holly and her husband David Moore. He has six grand children – Clara Brown; Jonathan and Timothy Collins, and Jennifer Collins Beaulieu and her husband Peter; and David and Sarah Moore. Harold also has three great grandchildren Charles, Noah, and Jacob Beaulieu. He will be missed by all.

Visiting hours will be Friday March 2, 2012 from 6:30 to 8:00 at the Desmond Funeral Home, 638 High Street in Bath, Maine. Funeral Services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday March 3, 2012 at the same location.

In Lieu of Flowers, please make donations to the Cancer Society of Maine or the caring Staff at The Horizons who made his life so comfortable at the end of life.
