AUGUSTA — Carylanne Wolfington surpassed the 1,000-point mark for her career Tuesday night as top-seeded Hall-Dale beat St. Dom’s 45-32 in a Western Class C girls’ basketball quarterfinal at the Augusta Civic Center.
Needing 20 points to reach 1,000, Wolfington was stuck on 19 points until she hit a short lefty bank shot with 1:28 remaining.
Kristina Buck added 15 points for the Bulldogs (16-3).
Mary Caron led St. Dom’s (8-12) with 13 points.
WESTERN CLASS D GIRLS
RICHMOND 51, BUCKFIELD 22: The top-seeded Bobcats (17-1) opened an 18-0 lead in the first quarter and cruised past the ninth-seeded Bucks (5-15) in a quarterfinal at Augusta.
Alyssa Pearson paced a balanced Richmond attack with 11 points. Danielle Patrie scored 11 points for Buckfield.
EASTERN CLASS C GIRLS
HOULTON 45, ORONO 44: Samantha Keegan picked up a loose ball after a blocked shot and scored with 3.8 seconds remaining to give the eighth-seeded Shiretowners (14-6) a quarterfinal upset over the top-seeded Red Riots (15-4).
Orono trailed for almost the entire contest but took a 42-41 lead on a basket by Jillian Woodward with just under a minute remaining. Marina Cameron answered for Houlton, but Woodward was fouled and sank both free throws to put Orono back on top with 13.4 seconds left.
Amanda Fogarty led Houlton with 19 points. Cameron finished with 10.
Woodward scored 11 of her 17 points in the fourth quarter.
STEARNS 46, MATTANAWCOOK ACADEMY 24: Austrian exchange student Sigrid Koizar had 21 points and 13 rebounds for the fourth-seeded Minutemen (17-2) in a win over the fifth-seeded Lynx (14-5).
EASTERN CLASS C BOYS
MATTANAWCOOK ACADEMY 62, CALAIS 51: Chase Vicaire scored 31 points as the sixth-seeded Lynx (15-5) upset the third-seeded Blue Devils (14-3) in a quarterfinal at Bangor.
Joe Mitchell scored 21 points for Calais.
HOULTON 69, SUMNER 52: Nick Guiod scored 18 points and three teammates also were in double figures as the seventh-seeded Shiretowners (10-10) stunned the second-seeded Tigers (16-3).
