AUGUSTA — Cody St. Germain scored 18 points and top-seeded Dirigo used a stifling defense to beat Sacopee Valley 68-37 in a Western Class C boys’ basketball quarterfinal Monday night at the Augusta Civic Center.
Dirigo (18-1), seeking its fourth straight regional title, forced 37 turnovers. The Cougars got 15 points from Josh Turbide, including four 3-pointers, and 12 from Caleb Turner.
Kyle Martineau led eighth-seeded Sacopee Valley (6-14) with 11 points.
HALL-DALE 74, MADISON 68: Sam Shepherd scored 23 points and hit two 3-pointers in the last three minutes to lift fourth-seeded Hall-Dale (13-6) past fifth-seeded Madison (10-9) in a Western Class C boys’ quarterfinal.
Shepherd, a 6-foot-5 center, finished with six 3-pointers, including two late in the third quarter to help Hall-Dale erase a 10-point deficit. He also had five blocked shots.
Mike Woods contributed 16 points and Austin Bechard had 13 for Hall-Dale.
Austin Kane led Madison with 25 points.
WESTERN CLASS D GIRLS
VINALHAVEN 52, GREENVILLE 39: Izzy Drury scored 18 points as the sixth-seeded Vikings (11-8) knocked off the third-seeded Lakers (12-7) in a quarterfinal at Augusta.
EASTERN CLASS D GIRLS
HODGDON 39, SOUTHERN AROOSTOOK 34: Mariah Wiley scored 16 of her 19 points in the second half, including the go-ahead basket with less than two minutes left, to lead the seventh-seeded Hawks (13-7) past the 15th-seeded Warriors (9-11) in a quarterfinal at Bangor.
CENTRAL AROOSTOOK 34, WOODLAND 29: Vicki McIntyre scored 20 points to lead the third-seeded Panthers (16-4) past the sixth-seeded Dragons (13-7).
VAN BUREN 72, SHEAD 45: Parise Rossignol had 33 points, nine assists, seven rebounds and five blocked shots to lead the fourth-seeded Crusaders (16-3) to a win over the fifth-seeded Tigers (13-6).
EASTERN CLASS D BOYS
KATAHDIN 49, HODGDON 48: Bill Livezey sank the tiebreaking free throw with 18 seconds left and finished with 22 points as the fourth-seeded Cougars (15-5) edged the fifth-seeded Hawks (14-6).
JONESPORT-BEALS 57, EASTON 42: Vinal Crowley scored 14 points as the top-seeded Royals (16-2) beat the eighth-seeded Bears (15-5) in an Eastern Class D semifinal at Bangor.
