In 1944 Hollis joined the US Navy, where he served as an ambulance driver at the Corpus Christi Naval Air Station and was proud of getting that old Cadillac ambulance up over 100 MPH. He was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class in 1946. After the Navy Hollis returned to Maine and married. His first marriage ended in divorce and produced 3 children. While in Maine he worked at the Bath Naval Shipyard and later at Command Helicopter. In 1972 he moved to Littleton and married Eleanor Karpinski. He built a log cabin and lived there for the rest of his life. He worked as a supervisor for Burndy Corp and DCI, finally retiring from TJ Maxx in Littleton in 2011. He enjoyed riding his wheeler in the summer and snow machines in the winter. He also raised live stock, collected John Deere memorabilia and loved tinkering on his many machines. He was never happier than when he was on his tractor in the hay field. He had a close connection with all animals, none more than his dairy cows. He is proceeded in death by his parents, his wife, Eleanor Erskine in 1995, and a daughter, Patty Rodjenski in 1984.
Hollis is survived by two sons, Hollis Erskine Jr., SC, and Norman Miller, TN, four daughters, Karen Damon, CT, Pam Lescell, CT, Debra Johnson, Loudon, NH, and Carol Barowski, Dunbarton, NH, 14 grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren, 3 great-greatgrandchildren, many nieces and nephews, his close friend, Dori Hamilton, Lisbon, NH, and the mother of his first 3 children Jean Miller, SC.
