BATH — Daniel S. Poulos, 93, of Bath died Sunday, January 29, 2012, at a Falmouth nursing facility where he had been in residence for the past year and a half.
Dan was born in Nashua, NH, on April 7, 1918, the youngest child of Spiros and Diamantho Koufopoulos Economopoulos.
Dan graduated from Nashua High School in 1936. He matriculated at Bowdoin College (’41) leaving in 1938 to work with his cousin, George Poulos, at Liberty Bottling in Bath. Drafted in 1941, Dan served with the US Army in the Pacific during World War II in Fiji and the Solomon Islands, including Guadalcanal. After his return to Bath, Dan owned the Arcade Bowling Alley and later, with his father, the Colonial Maid Restaurant at Cook’s Corner. When the Colonial Maid closed in the early 60s, Dan embarked on a 20+ year career with the US Postal Service, serving first as a letter carrier in Bath, and later as a postal clerk in Bath and Portland. Dan retired from the USPS in 1983. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Smith- Tobey Post of the American Legion.
Daniel was predeceased by his wife, Aret Kakos Poulos in 2008, his parents, and sisters, Dora Condon and Aphrodite Economopoulos.
He is survived by his son, Stephen, of Yarmouth and several cousins.
