PORTLAND — The Gelato Fiasco’s new store is now open at 425 Fore St. in Portland, according to a news release.
The Gelato Fiasco Portland features a rotating selection of 30 flavors of gelato and sorbetto made fresh daily from a master recipe collection of more than 1,000 flavors. The store also offers slow-poured coffee, a full espresso bar, and a variety of fancy desserts, such as salted caramel sundaes and cookie panini gelato sandwiches.
“We are very happy to have moved to the big city and to be part of the dessert renaissance in the Old Port,” cofounder Joshua Davis, 29, said. “It is our hope that The Gelato Fiasco Portland will be a place for the community to gather in a comfortable, cozy setting and explore the artistry of our gelato and espresso drinks.”
The store becomes the company’s second location. Davis and co- founder Bruno Tropeano, 28, opened The Gelato Fiasco flagship store in downtown Brunswick in the summer of 2007.
The Portland store offers indoor seating, board games for customers, and wireless Internet access. A window allows customers a peek into the kitchen. In the spring, outdoor seating will be available on the Fore Street terrace.
“Our store was supposed to open several weeks ago, but as you might expect, getting gelato cases custom-built in Italy is unpredictable,” Davis said. “ We had to wait for them to be built, put on a plane, imported through U.S. Customs, and rebuilt here. But the result was worth it: a stunning stage for our flavors and servers.”
Like the Brunswick location, the Portland store offers the Frozen Code, which provides customersa1percent discount off gelato dishes for every degree below freezing outside all winter long. The colder it gets, the more customers save.
The store is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. Flavors can be viewed each afternoon at gelatofiasco.com.
