FREEPORT — An unlicensed Brunswick driver faces vehicle theft charges after a joy ride with four minors aboard led to a hit-and-run accident Sunday, according to Freeport Police officials.

Alysha M. Spaulding, 18, of Brunswick, also was charged with driving to endanger, operating a vehicle without a license, and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident after the hit-and-run collision reported at 1:43 p.m.

The vehicle, a 2001 Subaru, was reported stolen Saturday from the Regal Cinema parking lot in Brunswick, according to Freeport Police Lt. Susan Nourse.

Nourse said investigators do not know how Spaulding came into possession of the car.

On Sunday, Nourse said Spaulding was driving with her younger sister and three other teens when Spaulding piloted the 2001 Subaru into a 2004 Volvo near the intersection of West and South streets.

Nourse said that Spaulding has been released following her arrest Sunday and is awaiting a court appearance on April 3 in West Bath District Court.
