AUGUSTA (AP) — A Maine ethics board has given the goahead for a deeper investigation into the finances of two political action committees that supported efforts to bring a casino to Lewiston last year.
The Maine Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices decided 4-0 Wednesday to move forward with a complaint filed by longtime casino opponent Dennis Bailey.
The commission found sufficient grounds to believe that a violation may have occurred.
Bailey and the group CasinosNO! question the source of $412,000 in contributions to two PACs, the People of Lewiston Auburn Committee and Green Jobs for ME, which supported the statewide initiative that voters rejected.
