TOPSHAM — Patricia Morrison Guild died on Sunday January 22, 2012 at her home in Topsham; she was surrounded and attended by her family. Patricia had lived with periodic recurrences of cancer for over 20 years.
Patricia was born in Boston MA, on March 19, 1929 of Lawrence Winifred Jarrett and Evelyn Victoria Randall. She lived in Douglaston Long Island, NY until age 10 when her mother and step-father Alfred Grote moved to South Freeport, ME in 1939. Patricia attended Freeport Schools and graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1947. Upon her graduation Patricia attended Westbrook Junior College, majoring in medical technology. When she graduated in 1949, Patricia underwent a rigorous training program at Maine General Hospital and became a registered Medical Technologist with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists. In 1990, at age 61, Patricia graduated summa cum laude with a BA in history from the University of Southern Maine.
Patricia worked as a medical technologist in the hospital and at Bowdoin College. In 1970 Patricia went to work for Pine Cap in Lewiston in a program called New Careers. She worked in job training from counselor to a program administrator when she retired in 1997. The positive impact on individuals with whom she worked continues to resonate within the lives of her many clients.
Patricia was a member of the Freeport School Board beginning in 1970, and established new programs at the George C. Soule School in South Freeport. She believed in and supported teachers and education throughout her life.
Patricia was active in many organizations; she was a founding member and later President of the Freeport Elders Association. She was active on behalf of the alumni at Fryeburg Academy and Westbrook Junior College. Patricia was passionate about protecting and supporting the environment and along with her pets she had a lifelong love of wild animals.
Patricia married William “Cheever” Archer Rogers in 1950. William predeceased Patricia losing his life at sea on the schooner Windfall in 1962 off Cape Hatteras. Patricia married Kenneth H. Morrison in 1964 and was predeceased by Kenneth in 1992. Patricia married Colonel Walter Guild, US Army Ret., in 1994. Patricia and Walter traveled the world and were happy in their retirement.
Patricia is survived by her husband Walter, and her children Michal and her spouse Jeremy Gould of Pownal, Jonathan and his spouse Kathleen McKay of Benton, and William of Tiverton, R.I; Patricia’s grandchildren are Orion Poulin of Carbondale, Illinois, Hana Poulin of Pownal, Maine, Jonathan “Bucky” Rogers of Carlisle, MA and Michael Rogers of Portland, ME.
Patricia always wanted to look good, to make people feel good, and above all, to make a beneficial difference.
Visiting hours will be at Brackett’s Funeral Home on 12 Federal Street in Brunswick on January 26 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. The funeral will be at the South Freeport Congregational Church on January 27, at 3:00pm. Burial will be at the South Freeport Cemetery in the spring.
