AL MILLER, Wendy Poole and Michele Livermore Wigton, from left, perform in a previous Winter Cabaret sketch at the Theater Project, 14 School St., Brunswick.
The
Theater Project’s Professional Ensemble will present “Circle Mirror Transformation” and “Winter Cabaret” on alternating weekends in January and February, beginning Jan. 20.
Annie Baker’s “ Circle Mirror Transformation” is directed by Christopher Price. The New York Times called it an “absorbing, unblinking and sharply funny play,” in which four New Englanders who have little in common with each sign up for a six-week community theater class led by a free spirited teacher, according to a Theater Project release.
Through a series of silly acting exercises and games, the unexpected discoveries they make about themselves and each other are a beautiful reminder of the human condition.
On “Winter Cabaret” nights, the theater will be transformed to resemble a nightclub, and “the audience is whisked away from winter blues by hilarious sketch comedy, live music and delectable desserts,” the release states.
Executive director Wendy Poole said, “We’ve been doing ‘Winter Cabaret’ for over 12 years, and I think this might be the funniest one yet.”
Poole added that she believes “Circle Mirror Transformation” is “one of the most beautifully written modern plays about the human spirit,” the release states.
