YARMOUTH — Award-winning musicians Jesse Brock (mandolin), Mike Bub (bass), Gary Filgate (banjo) and John Miller (guitar) will lead an intensive, bluegrass music workshop from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Community Music Center, 317 Main St.

The workshop is open to the general public.

For the first two hours of the workshop, participants will break off into small groups by instrument to learn in an intimate setting about topics including playing rhythm, timing/beat and tempo, practice structure, technique enhancement/speed, tone enhancement and taste, supporting roles of the respective instruments, and various bluegrass styles.

Following a 30-minute lunch break — lunch will be provided — all workshop participants will gather to learn about bluegrass band dynamics. Topics to be covered will include development of arrangements, improvisation, playing in a supporting role, and song kick-offs and endings.

This workshop is designed for the intermediate to advanced player. All instruments are welcome, but focus will be on mandolin, guitar, bass and banjo.

Participants should bring a recording device if they own one.

The cost to attend is $ 75, which includes lunch.
