TOPSHAM
A vehicle hit a utility pole Saturday morning on Elm Street, causing about 400 Central Maine Power customers to lose power for about 40 minutes while a CMP crew replaced the pole.
Topsham Police Lt. Christopher Lewis said the crash was reported at 10:42 a.m. The driver, Nicole Nordin-Bessett, 18, of 118 McKeen St., Brunsxwick, lost control as she drove on Elm Street. She crashed through a utility pole, Lewis said. Nordin-Bessett was driving a 2003 Hyundai passenger car and was the sole occupant. She was not transported to a hospital.
Tuesday, Lewis said no charges were filed against Nordin-Bessett.
Gail Rice, spokeswoman for CMP, said this morning that CMP had to shut off the power from 1:12 p.m. to 1:51 p.m. to switch the wires over to the new pole. The work affected about 472 customers in Topsham.
