WESTBROOk – Firefighters started the new year with two separate incidents involving fire and ice that looked more destructive than they actually were.
On Saturday, at 8:25 a.m., icy, slick roads led to a multi-vehicle pileup on Route 302 at the Dock Pond/Hardy Road intersection, according to Deputy Fire Chief Wayne Jones.
“They just started sliding, and started hitting each other,” he said.
Jones said 4-5 vehicles were involved, but no one was hurt, and the damage to the vehicles was minor.
Just two days later, at 10:16 a.m. on Jan. 2, a small grease fire brought firefighters to Hannaford on Hannaford Drive, Jones said. A deep-fat fryer, he said, had ignited, but the store’s fire extinguishers had already put the flames out by the time firefighters arrived.
“All we did was disconnect it and roll it outside,” he said.
No one was hurt there, either. When asked about damage to the store, Jones said there was “none whatsoever.”
