Factory Stage will present two performances of the off-Broadway hit musical comedy, “Forbidden Broadway’s Greatest Hits, Volume One” on Saturday.
“This musical send-up of the most beloved Broadway musicals and personalities will leave audiences laughing and wanting more,” a Freeport Factory Stage release states. “‘Forbidden Broadway’ is one of the longest running shows in New York, and our production will feature some of Southern Maine’s finest singers.”
Performers will satirize songs from “Les Miserables,” “Chicago,” “Annie,” “Fiddler on the Roof” “Hairspray” and more. The performance also includes “mock cameo appearances” by singers impersonating Carol Channing and Liza Minelli.
Directed by Julie George-Carlson, with musical direction by Bekkah Willey, the cast includes Koko Keller, Kurt Perry, Matthew Power, Katie Sarno, Laura Hurd Whited and Rhonda Williams.
“These singers have worked extensively throughout southern Maine and in summer stock regional theater,” George-Carlson said in the release. “This production requires strong singers, but it also requires tremendous comic timing and the ability to ‘send up’ famous personalities.”
Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday at Freeport Factory Stage, 5 Depot St. The 10 p.m. show will feature noisemakers, champagne, treats and a New Year’s ring-in-singalong at midnight.
Tickets for “Forbidden Broadway” cost $25. For reservations, call the box office at 865-5505 or buy tickets online at www.freeportfactory.com. Group rates are available.
