A 41-year-old Baldwin man faces multiple felonies after he allegedly paid teen-age girls to have sex in front of him and gave them marijuana, according to the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office.
Robert Brower, of Dearborn Road, was arrested this afternoon and is scheduled to be in court for an initial appearance Friday.
Police say Brower offered and paid girls under the age of 18 money to perform sex acts in his presence. Investigators say there was one episode where two girls were paid to have sex and another incident in which Brower offered one of the girls money to engage in sex.
The incidents happened within the past several months at Brower’s home and recently were referred to the sheriff’s office by the Department of Health and Human Services child protection unit, said Det. Sgt. James Estabrook. The state agency had been alerted by a mandated reporter, someone who is legally obligated to report cases of child victimization to authorities, he said.
Brower is charged with three counts of aggravated promotion of prostitution, three counts of patronizing prostitution of a minor and two counts of aggravated furnishing drugs. He also faces a charge from York County of failure to appear on a charge of driving with a suspended license.
He is being held on $25,000 bail at Cumberland County Jail.
Brower is not accused of having sex or sexually touching the girls. Estabrook would not say precisely how old the girls were and said they were from Greater Portland.
