BRUNSWICK

Two separate crashes tied up traffic in downtown Brunswick on Wednesday evening, one of them a headon collision that shut down Mill Street for a brief time and required both drivers to be extricated from their cars.

Just before 6 p.m., a 2003 Mercury headed west on Route 1 crossed the center line and ran head-on into a 2009 Chrysler headed east near the Mill Street interchange, Deputy Chief Marc Hagan of the Brunswick Police Department said Thursday.

Police closed Mill Street while firefighters extricated the driver of the Mercury, 39- year-old Brooke Sanborn of Bristol, and the driver of the Chrysler, Barbara Angel, 70, of 92 Bluff Road, Bath.

Westbound traffic on Route 1 was stopped for about 30 minutes during the extrication, Hagan said.

Both drivers were treated and released from Mid Coast Hospital, according to a hospital spokesman.

Just prior to the Mill Street crash, another two-car collision at the intersection of Bath Road and Sills Drive also sent the drivers of each vehicle to Mid Coast Hospital.

Just before 5 p.m., a 2006 Toyota driven by 64-year-old Janice O’Connor of 43 Meadowbrook Road, turned left from Bath Road onto Sills Drive and into the path of a 2003 Ford driven by 39-yearold Mary Dooley of 15 Hickory Drive, Bath.

O’Connor and Dooley were treated and released from Mid Coast Hospital.

Dooley’s passenger, 31-yearold Travis Dooley, was not injured.
