The purpose of the course is to help people prepare for and be well informed about the process of buying a home.

Vogelzang selected as MPBN president
LEWISTON — The board of directors of the Maine Public Broadcasting Network recently selected Mark Vogelzang as MPBN’s new president and CEO.
Vogelzang, 56, is a veteran of public broadcasting, having served most recently as station manager at WBFO-FM, Buffalo’s NPR member station, where he helped facilitate a merger to be completed in 2012 between WBFO and WNED in western New York.
Vogelzang was also president of Vermont Public Radio (VPR) for 16 years, from 1993 to 2009, where he helped the organization complete a $10 million endowment campaign and created two regional networks
— one that carries news, information and cultural programming and another devoted to classical music and the arts. He was elected to NPR’s board of directors for seven years (2001-08), and served as the executive director (interim) of the NPR Foundation for most of 2009, overseeing the foundation’s entire fundraising operation.
When he takes over as the head of MPBN in January, Vogelzang will replace Jim Dowe, who has been MPBN’s president and CEO since April 2006 and who last spring announced his plans to retire at the end of this year.
Vogelzang received his B.A. degree from Dordt College in Iowa, where he also began his public radio career at the campus radio station. He and his wife, Rhonda, have five adult children and five grandchildren.

BRUNSWICK — Jacki Bruce, a licensed cosmetologist, is renting a booth at Shear Body Hair Studio & Spa at 51 Harpswell Road in Brunswick.
The studio is located in the same building as Brunswick Variety & Deli, near Bowdoin College.

Petersen, Shorr elected to board
SOUTH PORTLAND — Richard Petersen and Elizabeth Shorr have recently been elected to the board of directors of the Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges (FMCC). The announcement was made by former Gov. John McKernan, the board’s chairman.
Petersen was named president and chief executive officer of Maine Medical Center in June 2009. Prior to serving as interim president and CEO, Petersen was the medical center’s chief operating officer for 10 years.
Petersen graduated from Broome Community College in Binghamton, N.Y., before continuing his undergraduate education at Ithaca College. He holds a master’s in business administration from Canisius College in Buffalo, N.Y.
Shorr serves as president of the Foundation for Maine’s Community Colleges. Prior to joining the organization as its first president in January 2010, she served as vice chancellor, University Advancement at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. She previously served as president and CEO of the University of Southern Maine Foundation and as vice president for University Advancement at USM.
Cromarty joins staff at Body Symmetry
BRUNSWICK — Body Symmetry Pilates & Personal Training Studio recently announced that Michelle Cromarty has joined its staff for both Pilates and Spinning.
Cromarty grew up in Seattle and graduated from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash., and began practicing Pilates in 1996. She discovered Stott Pilates after moving to New Hampshire in 2003. She began teaching and earned her Stott Pilates certification for both matwork and reformer in 2010. She has previously worked at Tone Zone Pilates and Living Well Physical Therapy in New Hampshire.
Since moving to Maine this past summer, Cromarty has also recently earned her certification for Spinning.

TOPSHAM — Ludger Tremblay has joined the Lee Toyota sales group in Topsham, according to a news release.
Tremblay has been in the auto sales business for more than 25 years.
Prior to joining Lee Toyota, Tremblay was employed by L.A. Harley Davidson of Lewiston.
Maine Prep classes begin in January
BRUNSWICK — Maine Prep’s SAT prep classes for Brunswick area high school students will meet from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. every Thursday, Jan. 12 through March 8, to prepare students for the March 10, 2012, SAT test.
The eight-session course, designed to teach students strategies to use in the math, writing and reading sections of the SAT, will meet at the Maine Prep offices, 22 Parkers Way, Brunswick.
The teacher is Jack Mahoney.
