The Board of Selectmen seeks input from Topsham residents about their view concerning the sale and personal use of fireworks, which will become legal in the state on Jan. 1, 2012.
According to a new online survey posted on the town’s website, a new state law “provides for the sale and use of fireworks in all communities in Maine, unless a town adopts local regulations. Under this provision, Topsham could adopt local regulations to ban the use of fireworks, ban the sale of fireworks, regulate the use of fireworks or regulate the sale of fireworks.
“Your responses to the questions (on the survey) will help give the board the information it needs as it continues to discuss this issue,” the survey introduction continues.
The survey consists of six “yes” or “no” questions, asking whether the town should ban the sale of fireworks, regulate their sale or rely on the state to regulate fireworks sales; and similarly if the town should ban the use of fireworks, adopt regulations regarding the use of fireworks or if Topsham should rely on the state to regulate the use of fireworks.
