Two separate crashes Sunday along Interstate 295 in Brunswick and Freeport caused occupants of involved vehicles to be taken by ambulance to Parkview Adventist Medical Center.
The two incidents happened within an hour of each other Sunday morning, Brunswick Deputy Fire Chief Don Koslosky said.
The first road mishap, at 7: 30 a. m., involved a 2004 Dodge Neon headed southbound that hit a patch of black ice and slammed into a guardrail on the bridge crossing the Androscoggin River between Topsham and Brunswick.
Koslosky said Brunswick Fire Department staff assisted in the transport of one occupant of the vehicle to Parkview. He did not have further information about the extent of the injuries.
Around 8: 30 a. m., Brunswick Fire Department rescue workers responded to a reported rollover on I-295 southbound in Freeport.
When they arrived at the scene, rescue workers found the driver standing outside of the vehicle, which was overturned in a small pond on the shoulder of the highway. One person required transport to the hospital.
Koslosky said it was not clear whether black ice also caused the second crash.
Koslosky said drivers should be cautious in wet conditions, especially on bridges, which he said freeze before other roadways.
