BOWDOINHAM
A Brunswick woman died at a Brunswick hospital Thursday night after she was struck by a truck as she attempted to cross Fisher Road on foot.
Helen Koulouris, 58, of Brunswick died at Mid Coast Hospital shortly after being rushed there by ambulance, Maine State Police Trooper Jonathan Leach said in a news release.
Leach identified the truck driver as Lisa Green, 42, of Bowdoinham.
The incident occurred on Fisher Road, a short distance from Green’s home, at about 6:15 p.m.
Leach said that Koulouris was looking for a nearby residence and had parked her vehicle on the opposite side of the road. She was attempting to walk across Fisher Road when struck by the truck.
Green told Leach that she did not see anyone, but felt the impact, stopped immediately and found Koulouris along the road. The trooper said Koulouris was wearing dark clothing and that no charges were filed against the driver.
Bowdoinham Fire Chief Jack Tourtelotte said his department, along with Bowdoinham EMS personnel, responded to the incident, which required closure of Fisher Road. They also set up a landing zone near Jades Way for a Life- Flight rescue helicopter to land.
North East Mobile Health Services responded with an ambulance and decided to cancel the helicopter as it was circling overhead. North East Mobile Health Services took Koulouris to Mid Coast Hospital.
Tourtelotte said the department remained on scene for about two and a half hours, assisting the state police with a reconstruction of the crash, providing flood lights and keeping the road closed.
He said the Sagadahoc County Sheriff ’s Department and the Topsham Police Department also responded to the scene.
