BATH — The Maine Eastern Railroad will run a special train Saturday morning to help WCSH-TV and WLBZTV promote their annual Coats & Toys for Kids Day charitable effort.
Personalities from the television stations, including Togus the cat, mascot for the stations’ Storm Center, will ride the train.
The train, decorated for the holidays, will be at Brunswick Station from 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday. It will then travel to Bath, where it will be at the train station from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
The train component resulted in a significant increase in the collection of winter clothing and toys last year, according to a railroad spokesman.
The train will then continue on to Rockland, where it will stop from noon to 12:45 p.m.
“Fans of the friendly feline are invited to spend some time with Togus at any of the three train stations, when they drop off their new and lightly used children’s coats, along with new, unwrapped toys on that day,” a Maine Eastern Railroad release states.
The visit with Togus does not include a train ride, and the train will not accept passengers that morning. Families will be able to meet Togus, and then enjoy hot cocoa provided by the Maine Energy Marketers Association after leaving the train.
Visitors are encouraged to donate coats and toys to the Coats & Toys for Kids drive. Drop spots include Shaw’s and Hannaford supermarkets. For more information, go online to www.wcsh6.com; or www.wlbz2.com.
Maine Eastern Railroad also will run the Tri-County Literacy Candy Cane Train out of Bath on Dec. 10 and 11.
