The entire Brunswick Fire Department — 45 members, including call and career firefighters — saluted along with members of the police department, as pallbearers entered the church, filled to capacity with those who knew and loved the Brunswick native.
Firefighters from Freeport and Topsham provided coverage at the Brunswick Fire Station, with several Brunswick police officers accompanying them on calls to navigate Brunswick’s streets.
Emerson, a captain on the department’s call force, died Nov. 21 at age 73, after a long battle with prostate cancer.
He was remembered last week for his dedication to the department — on which he served for more than 41 years — as well as for his kindness and sense of humor.
