Brown said in an email Monday that the Brunswick Development Corp. (BDC), of which he is a ex officio member, approved a bid for cleanup and demolition of the buildings — at 81 and 85 Pleasant St. and 1 and 3 Stanwood St. — during a meeting Thursday.
Hazardous materials cleanup began at the buildings Monday, Brown wrote, and the buildings are expected to be demolished by mid-January.
The property, which is currently owned by the BDC, has been identified by the Town Council as the preferred site for constructing a new Brunswick police station.
At its meeting Thursday, the BDC selected New Meadows Abatement to complete asbestos removal at the four buildings for a price of $14,920.
Ray Labbe & Sons, Inc. received the contract for demolition of the buildings, with a bid of $64,480.
The town’s police station committee will meet next on Dec. 6.
