WATERBORO- In a game that featured only two passes both by Massabesic Quarterback Jake Desrochers, it would seem unlikely that the Gorham and Massabessic offensives would be able to muster much production. Paradoxically however, both teams combined for 110 points on Senior Night at Massabesic High School while battling the elements, which featured on-and-of periods of torrential downpours as Gorham survived the weather to come away with the 63-47 win.

It was fitting that Gorham’s maroon numbers on their jerseys eventually became a muddy blur and virtually indistinguishable as backs Matt McKenney, Nick Kilborn and Brad Turnbaugh turned in performances for the ages. McKenney, Kilborn and Turnbaugh each scored three rushing touchdowns en route to the road victory.

While McKenney and Turnbaugh provided Gorham with constant big play threats throughout the game, including a 75-yard touchdown run by McKenney and runs of 95 and 70 for scores for Turnbaugh, Kilborn was responsible for moving the chains. Kilborn behind a terrific performance from his offensive line was able to keep the ball in Gorham’s possession when McKenney and Turnbaugh were unable to break free. Kilborn also added a red zone interception on the second and last throw of the game.

Kilborn’s ability to move the chains and slow the game down may have proved to be the difference as Massabesic senior running back Sam Chaves, and junior quarterback Jake Desrochers did their best to salvage Massabesic’s Senior Night.

Chaves ran for three touchdowns that were all over 50 yards (59, 57 and 52 yards) the final of which came in the closing two minutes when the game was virtually wrapped up.

Quarterback Jake Desrochers added three rushing touchdowns of his own. His most notable run came following McKenney’s first 75 yard touchdown scamper. On Massabesic’s first play following McKenney’s touchdown Desrochers kept the ball on an option to the right and raced 95 yards down the sideline. Clearly that was a sign of things to come.
