CUMBERLAND — Fair officials said a bumper crop of people were showing up for the Cumberland County Fair today.

“Fantastic,” said Elliott Weed, who was helping at the ticket booth.

The fair is kicking off its 140th year today. The fair  runs through Oct. 1.

It’s the largest agricultural event in the county, known for its agricultural exhibits, pig scrambles, giant pumpkin-growing contest and harness racing.

There’s also music, plenty of food, carnival rides and livestock events.

This year there’ll also be lawnmower races.
