PORTLAND – After losing a tough 3-2 decision to Windham on Sept. 16, the Westbrook field hockey team (5-2) bounced back nicely, shutting out Deering (1-5-1) on the road on Tuesday afternoon.

In the latest Heal Point standings, the Blue Blazes sit in eighth place, just behind No. 7 Kennebunk (5-3). Cheverus is No. 1 with an 8-0 record, Sanford is a close second at 7-0-1 and Scarborough is right behind in third place with a 6-0-1 mark.

Against the Rams on Tuesday, the Blazes got the lone goal of the game in the first half when Ally Lemay took a pass from Danielle Richards and popped it past Deering goalkeeper Caley Presby for the game’s only goal.

Westbrook’s Maryssa Arsenault picked up the shutout in net for the Blazes, stopping all three of Deering’s shots.

The upcoming week could prove to be a big one for the Blazes, as they will host Sanford on Sept. 22 at 4 p.m. After the game with the Redskins, the Blazes will travel to Kennebunk on Sept. 26 before returning home to host Bonny Eagle on Sept. 28 at 4 p.m.
