AUGUSTA — The state Streamlining Commission is meeting today to continue work toward finding at least $25 million in cuts to the state budget.

The group, which includes lawmakers and members of the public, is making its way through a list of proposed cuts from state department heads. Most of the items are small – the group tabled a proposed $6,479 cut to the Maine Arts Commission after a brief discussion – but larger dollar amounts are scheduled to be discussed later in the day.

The group is charged with cutting $25 million from the fiscal year 2013 budget, which begins in July. Proposals from the group will be forwarded to the Legislature for approval early next year.
