CUMBERLAND — As School Administrative District 75 approaches the 2011-2012 year, one key change is in the administrative lineup at Greely High School.

Daniel McKeone, formerly the school’s interim assistant principal and then interim principal, took over the principal job July 1. He started at the school in 1999 as a mathematics teacher, and was the department chairman from 2001-2005. He was dean of students from 2005-2008, and then became interim assistant principal in 2008 and assistant principal in 2009.

He was interim principal twice, from November 2009 to March 2010 and then from August 2010 until his recent promotion.

Mar-e Trebilcock, who was interim assistant principal, became the high school’s new assistant principal last month. She had been interim dean of students at the high school a few years ago and was a math and science teacher at Greely Middle School.

David Shapiro, who previously worked in Hampden, is SAD 51’s new athletic administrator for grades six through 12.

Programmatically the district is focusing on the new Common Core, a national education standards initiative geared toward preparing students for college and careers, Superintendent Robert Hasson said Monday.

“It’s the umbrella that covers what kids will need to know and be able to do to be successful in the 21st century,” he said, explaining that most states have adopted the standards, which focus on areas like math, literacy and science.

SAD 51 is also continuing its work on literacy, using the Teachers College workshop model through Columbia University. The district is also continuing to implement the IMPACT Mathematics curriculum at Greely Middle School. That math improvement program follows the Everyday Math program in kindergarten through fifth grade.

The district is additionally developing an evolved teacher evaluation system based on the Delaware Performance Appraisal System.

School starts Wednesday, Aug. 31, for grades one through 12, and on Tuesday, Sept. 6 for kindergarten.
